Real Madrid 4-1 CSKA Moscow (Agg. 5-2)

To keep their Champions League hopes alive, Real Madrid needed to win tonight or go for a 0-0 draw, the win seemed like the safer option. After a 1-1 draw in Moscow, Real Madrid came back to fight for their spot in the Quarter-Finals. Starting with Iker Casillas, Alvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil, Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gonzalo Higuain, they needed this win.

As the first half wore on, CSKA had the better chances of the game, getting some dangerous attacks on Casillas while Real Madrid's attacks weren't as threatening on Sergey Chepchugov. But it was Gonzalo Higuain who was able to get the opening goal in the 26th minute after a great overhead pass from Khedira to Kaka, who put in a low cross for Higuain to get the opener. The first half ended 1-0 to the hosts and things seemed to be going the right way.

As the second half began, we needed more goals to be safer and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up as usual to make it 2-0 to the Whites on the 55th minute. Exhaustion started to get to the players, especially Mesut Ozil, Kaka, and Higuain. Jose Mourinho took off Higuain for Karim Benzema who was able to make an instant impact as his first shot rebounded off the goalkeeper and scored to make it 3-0 on the 70th minute.

CSKA Moscow weren't planning to give up as Zoran Tosic scored a beautiful goal to make it 3-1 and they kept on trying but Real Madrid's counter-attack was too much for them as Benzema crossed it in for Ronaldo to score into the open goal on the 94th minute to end the game 4-1 to Real Madrid.

It was a great game overall but we've seen Real Madrid play better than that. But they did the job, and they did it very well. Now, we will have to wait for the draw on Friday to see who Real Madrid's next opponents will be in the Quarter Finals.

Hey Ali,

I believe Inter is out, and Marseille is still...

Other than that, we do need yo step up in defense, first of all, and in controlling the game. We lost so many balls in the attacking midfield, that led to dangerous counterattacks. What was great though were the goals, on both side actually. The 4 of them were great. Let's see what Friday holds :-)

Oh crap, thanks! I just fixed it :p

Yeah I get what you mean. As I mentioned, the game wasn't really perfect but we were able to do the job. I'm just worried that these mistakes will cost us in the league because I'm sure that if we continue playing this way, we won't keep winning because there are teams what will be able to take advantage of these errors.

I'm really excited about the CL Draw on Friday. Knowing our luck, we will end up playing against AC Milan and Barcelona will get APOEL :p Let's hope for the best though!

LOL Loved your prediction of the draw!!! In postgame interviews, the players, coach and management all had their poker-face answers ready! Yes, but what is the best? What are you hoping for, deep down? Actually that's a good question, I'm going to ask it on the forum! (I'm giving myself compliments, how sad is this?!)

¡Hala!
