Real Madrid 4-2 Levante

Real Madrid walked into the Santiago Bernabeu knowing that if they beat Levante (who won the last meeting 1-0 against Madrid), they will officially be 10 points ahead of Barcelona. This lead would give them some minor room for error and also will give them much needed comfort in the league.

Barcelona lost their game the night before after a shocking 3-2 result against Osasuna and Real Madrid weren’t willing to let this opportunity pass them. With Jose Mourinho fielding Iker Casillas, Alvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao, Xabi Alonso, Esteban Granero, Mesut Ozil, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gonzalo Higuain, Real Madrid were ready to win this game.

Things didn’t look too bright as Cabral was able to get a shocking goal against Real Madrid after only 5 minutes. But throughout the first half, Real Madrid have shown that they will fight and won’t give up as they kept attacks coming from every possible way. Benzema scored the equalizer but was controversially ruled offside. The counted equalizer came late in the first half from a penalty by Cristiano Ronaldo.

As the second half started, Real Madrid kept on attacking as Ronaldo scored after a great cross by Gonzalo Higuain to make it 2-1 after 50 minutes. Only seven minutes later, it was Ronaldo yet again to make it 3-1 with a great shot. Levante were able to pull one back as Kone made it 3-2 after 63 minutes but Benzema’s great shot from the side of the box made it 4-2 after 66 minutes to make the game end 4-2 to the hosts.

It was a beautiful game with some great goals and great playing by both teams. Real Madrid are now 10 points ahead of their rivals and, if they do not end up winning the league, they only have themselves to blame. This lead can increase if Real Madrid beat Barcelona later in the season but that’s a talk reserved for some other time. They will need to keep up their fighting mentality because there’s still a lot of games left and we still have not officially won the league. Anything can happen…
