Rayo Vallecano 0-1 Real Madrid

With an early game, Real Madrid walked onto the pitch wearing their red jersey for the third time this season. They needed the three points to keep the 10 point advantage on rivals Barcelona. Starting with Iker Casillas, Alvaro Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil, Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gonzalo Higuain, they needed the win.

The first half started and Rayo were determined to show that they're no pushovers as the kept on attacking Real Madrid with the visitors not really able to do anything major. Both teams kept trying as Iker Casillas made a lot of saves to keep Real Madrid hoping. It was a terrible first half and things needed to change when the men went for the break. The major talk of the half was Sergio Ramos. While already having a yellow card, his elbow on Diego Costa went unseen and many believe it was supposed to be a red. In my opinion, Ramos should consider himself extremely lucky to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

As the second half began with no changes, Real Madrid showed more determination, and no one more than Cristiano Ronaldo who was able to score an amazing backheel kick to make it 1-0 for the visitors after 54 minutes. After that, both teams kept trying and Rayo were very close to getting the equalizer numerous times from Michu, Diego Costa, and Raul Tamudo.

During the second half, Jose Mourinho made three changes: Fabio Coentrao on for Kaka who had a bad game where he made no difference and was pretty much invisible on the pitch; Jose Callejon for Gonzalo Higuain who missed a few good chances but never gave up on a challenge; and Esteban Granero for Marcelo who had a pretty good game overall.

In the end, Real Madrid walked out with three points but it was a game to be forgotten as many could see this game as an unlucky win for the visitors. Even Jose Mourinho, in his post match press conference, admitted that Rayo Vallecano really did not deserve to lose. Either way, you can't really expect every game to be beautiful or easy and in the end, the three points was what really mattered and Real Madrid were able to achieve that.

Cristiano's goal was A-MA-ZING!!! Aside from that, I noticed the ref was more concerned with booking people for complaining than for hard tackles (although that changed a little after a while).

In the pregame press conf, Mourinho was asked about Rayo's poor form at home: well, I surely didn't see them in poor form today! I found most of the game boring, but I guess Cristiano's goal made up for it.

And I was a bit confused by the subs; not by the players who joined the pitch, but by who was taken off for them... At least we got the job done :-)

Cristiano's goal was unbelievable! Rayo had a great game though and, in my opinion, deserved more than what they walked out with. As for the ref, yeah he kept booking everyone then decided to tone it down but I'm really glad Ramos didn't end up getting a red card!

The subs were okay in my opinion, Kaka wasn't really in top form and neither was Higuain so changing them kind of made sense but didn't make much of a difference. Yeah, I'm happy we got that game out of the way with three points and we can keep moving forward now..
