Getafe 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid walked into the Coliseum Alfonso Perez in Getafe to what they knew would be a hard game but a needed 3 points to keep their 7 point lead over league rivals, Barcelona. Also, the cold and heavy winds surely weren't ready to help in any way possible.

In a game that has ended 4-2 to Real Madrid the first time they met this season, Getafe are known for fighting really hard when it comes to game where they are the underdogs, little need reminder of the shocking 1-0 victory against Barcelona.

The game started off in typical Real Madrid fashion as they kept attacking the hosts with everything they've got. After 18 minutes, Mesut Ozil crossed in a great corner which was greatly handled by a header into the back of the net by Sergio Ramos. For the remainder of the first half, chances kept coming for both teams as Cristiano Ronaldo almost got himself onto the scoresheet with a free kick. The first half ended 1-0 to the visitors.

As the second half began, both teams kept trying. Real Madrid knew that a one-goal lead is never enough since the smallest of mistakes could lead to a Getafe goal. Real Madrid had a great chance to make it 2-0 as Ozil passed it in for Karim Benzema but all he was able to do was shoot the ball straight at the keeper.

Overall, it was a slow game with a few chances coming in for both teams but Real Madrid got a very deserved three points to keep their lead at the top of La Liga.

Ok, so it wasn't just me who thought the rythm was a little slow, right? It was a win and in a quite satisying way, but it wasn't pouring goals either and I found myself able to watch, tweet AND write emails all at once! (I normally have trouble keeping track of everything when all I do is tweet so that was really unsual!)

If last game's slower rythm was a consequence of the cold, it's indeed a little worrying, because Moscow players will have a huge homefield advantage to capitalize on. It's being pretty cold here right now (although not as cold as I would expect it for a winter in Madrid), so hopefully it helps the players a little.
