With the likes of Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe on the bench, the players that took the pitch are Antonio Adan, Lassana Diarra, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao, Xabi Alonso, Nuri Sahin, Jose Callejon, Mesut Ozil, Gonzalo Higuain, and Karim Benzema.
Real Madrid really could not have wished for a better start as they were able to break a Champions League record after scoring four goals in the space of only 19 minutes! Karim Benzema was able to open the scoring after only two minutes after a great assist from Mesut Ozil, then Benzema decided to get an assist of his own by giving a great pass to Jose Callejon who was able to score with a great low shot on the 6th minute. Gonzalo Higuain scored a beautiful goal on the 9th minute and Mesut Ozil scored off a Higuain rebound on the 19th minute!
The first half ended 4-0 and Real Madrid were flying high! Jose Mourinho decided to make all three substitutions during half time and took off Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, and Mesut Ozil and put in Raul Albiol, Esteban Granero, and Hamit Altintop.
And the goals kept on coming as Callejon was able to score a great goal after only four minutes into the second half and Benzema scored the last goal for the Whites on the 66th minute. Dinamo Zagreb did not stop fighting and showed great determination during the game as they were able to get some control in the second half. Fatos Beqiraj scored a wonderful header on the 81st minute to get Dinamo's first goal in the Champions League this season and Ivan Tomecak finished the scoring on the 90th minute.
Overall this was an amazing game from Real Madrid. The squad showed great depth and great determination to win the game. After a very stressful game against Valencia on the weekend and a highly anticipated game coming up against Atletico Madrid, the Whites needed to make a few changes against Dinamo Zagreb and it worked perfectly.
Mourinho was very happy with how the game went and even though we conceded two goals, it was bound to happen sooner or later in the Champions League and it's good that we were able to concede them while we were ahead which meant that there was no risk.
Great game by the Whites and especially the youngster, Jose Callejon who has not been able to play much this season yet but showed that he has a great future ahead of him with the club!
