Dinamo Zagreb 0-1 Real Madrid

Frustration. Anger. Hatred. Annoyance. These are all things that the Whites don't expect to feel when getting ready for a game against Dinamo Zagreb who lack a lot of experience in the UEFA Champions League. But all these feeling and more were felt, even after the game ended.

With Real Madrid deciding to play in their red kit to have a 'colorful' opening to the Champions League, coach Jose Mourinho, who was suspended for the game, decided to field his strongest squad which he used during the first two games of the season against Real Zaragoza and Getafe.

The game surprisingly began at a very high intensity with attacks coming from both teams but nothing extreme really seemed to happen.

With many chances at goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria, Marcelo, Mesut Ozil, and Fabio Coentrao, Madrid were just not able to score until the 53rd minute when Angel Di Maria was able to finally score after a great play by Karim Benzema and a nice assist by Marcelo.

From then, Madrid were the ones in charge but could never be able to get the ball into the back of the net. They kept trying but always failed.

Putting all of this aside, the main talk of the game was the referee. Marcelo got a yellow card for a nasty tackle which he fully deserved and then, three minutes later, got a second yellow for diving in the box. Whether he dived or slipped or whatever, it looked like a clear dive and the red card he got was probably justified.

On the other end, we have Leko who looked like he was fielded into the Zagreb squad just so he can injure everyone. With some bad tackles against Cristiano Ronaldo and warnings from the referee, he finally got a yellow card for a very bad tackle against Fabio Coentrao from the back near the penalty box. THAT, in my opinion, deserved a clear red card. As if that wasn't enough, he also had a nasty tackle on Cristiano Ronaldo which he got nothing for! That was the same tackle, if not worse, that Pepe did on Dani Alves last season and got a straight red for it!
Ronaldo's leg after Leko's tackle

Unbelievable. But at least we were able to win I guess and we are now doing well in both competitions being in first place in the Champions League group and the Spanish League. Hopefully we can keep this up!
