Real Madrid 1-3 Barcelona

Last night, the two giants of Spain (and arguably the world) met at the Santiago Bernabeu in what promised to be an exciting encounter. All the pre-match talk didn’t matter, there was nothing more of either team to do. All they can do now is go onto the pitch and win.

When looking at the past few games of the season, Real Madrid looked like they had the upper hand. Winning games with amazing scorelines, passing the ball perfectly whenever they got the chance to, and also making counter attacking look easy! But where was that last night?

Karim Benzema got Real Madrid to a great start after only 30 seconds as Victor Valdez’s pass was easily intercepted which led to the goal. The Men in White could have really not asked for a better start. And the game kept going as both teams were able to create chance after chance and Real Madrid looked like they had the upper hand overall. That is until Alexis Sanchez was able to get the equalizer in the 30th minute and Barcelona were slowly starting to play their well-known possession football.

As the first half ended 1-1, anything was expected in the second half. From the start, Barcelona were the more ‘serious’ team and kept their chances coming as Madrid missed some sitters and their passing was awful. Xavi took a shot in the 52nd minute which deflected off Marcelo to go into the goal and make it 2-1. As the game kept going, it was obvious that Barcelona were going to score a third one sooner or later and Cesc Fabregas was the man to do so as he crept pass Fabio Coentrao to score a header on the 66th minute.

3-1 to the Catalans who, to be quite honest could have scored more. Jose Mourinho had to make three changes in the second half, which didn’t make any kind of difference in the game as he took off Mesut Ozil for Kaka, Lassana Diarra for Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria for Gonzalo Higuain. This is a game to be forgotten but we still have a game-in-hand, and if we are able to win that, we’ll be first place and three points ahead of Barcelona.

In the end, Barcelona fully deserved the win and we just have to move on from here. Madrid need to keep their past form to have a chance of winning the league.

The game may be over but the Liga is still alive. Hala Madrid!

Worst Real Madrid Player: Cristiano Ronaldo

Best Real Madrid Player: Karim Bezema

Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t even a shadow of himself. He seemed to be very lost on the pitch and really didn’t know what he was doing. His shots were mostly off target, his passes weren’t working out, and his dribbling pretty much never worked! In my opinion, he should not have played the full 90 minutes.
